The Scioto County Relay for Life received the “All American Relay Award” for its success in 2012. The Relay is being commended for raising funds totaling $117, 000, which is $24,000 more than their original fundraising goal.

“It could not happen without all the compassionate, caring and talented people that formed the individual teams that our Relay is made up of,” said event chairperson, Rosie Williams.

It is a beautiful sight to see all the different teams sharing ideas, supporting each other and caring about people in their communities from all over Scioto County. The excitement and enthusiasm is abundant at our monthly team captain meetings, and in 2011-12, that team spirit carried throughout the year and put us well over our goal,” Williams said.

The Relay Kick Off will be starting earlier this year to give more people a chance to get involved in this American Cancer Society event.

The relay is open to everyone. Participants may chose to run as individual, with a large company, church

The Relay for Life Kick-Off will take place on Nov. 1 at the SOMC Cancer Center on Kinney’s Lane in Portsmouth.

Plenty of food and door prizes will be provided.
