The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in the case of the theft and forgery of checks from an elderly resident.

Arrested was Stephen J. Crowe, 45, of Minford. Crowe has been charged with four counts of theft, and one count of receiving stolen property, all fifth degree felonies, and theft from the elderly, a felony of the fourth degree.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said his office has been working a case involving a 83-year-old male who had checks stolen and forged. He said deputies responded to Swauger Valley Road, and made a report which was forwarded to a detective for an investigation. During the investigation bank records and other items had to be obtained which resulted in the case being presented to the Scioto County Grand Jury where a incitement warrant was returned.

Donini said Deputy Paula Gibson, a Porter Township Community Policing deputy responded to Alleghney Hill Wednesday and was able to arrest the suspect without incident.

Crowe is being held without bond and will appear in Common Pleas Court at a later date.

Donini said anyone with any information concerning the theft is being requested to contact Detective Denver Triggs at 740-351-1093. He said all calls will remain anonymous.
