Editor’s Note: This is part of a series of articles intended to inform voters of candidates running for election this fall.
For the past 75 years, Scioto County has had two Recorders — Harold Hanes and current recorder Irene Ashley. In November, voters will have the opportunity to decide who the next Scioto County Recorder will be, Bill Warnock or Gail Alley.
“After more than 30 years of professional business practice and management, I feel the time is right to bring a strong and experienced skill set to this office,” Warnock said. “The property owners and residents of our communities deserve a 21st-century approach to record-keeping and related services.”
According to biographical information provided by Warnock, he has been a member of the Clay Local School District Board of Education for the past 21 years and currently serves as its president.
“Mostly nothing has changed in the (Recorders) office since 1964. Most of the record-keeping is still done by hand and limited records are kept electronically. This process is very inefficient for both employees and the public. It increases the chances for mistakes and makes conducting business both here and with other agencies in other counties very inefficient. I will change this,” Warnock said. “I have years of proven experience in business and organizational management, as an award-winning entrepreneur and supporter of local business and our future. When elected I will organize a plan to bring best practices to the Recorder’s Office in an economical and practical approach. Through experience, strong stewardship and vision, I plan to make the office an outstanding example of property and record management.”
Alley said she and her volunteers have been and will continue to be throughout the community putting signs up and talking to supporters.
“I’ve been going to a lot of the over 55 clubs, and have been getting good response form them. A number of the local unions have endorsed me and my candidacy,” Alley said. “In October we plan to be in a lot of the fire prevention parades, we’ve been really busy.”
Alley currently serves as a deputy recorder and started in the office in 1991.
“I’ve done pretty much everything in the office from running copies to stamping papers to helping Irene with the budget,” Alley said. “I’ve also had experience in ordering necessary supplies and talking to salesmen about our computers and copiers.”
Alley said, people should vote for her because of her 21 years of experience in the recorders office.
“I have the experience that it takes to keep the recorders office going, the way it has been. My future plans include getting records online. In Ohio there are only 27 counties of the 88 counties do not have online records. A lot of people have asked me about that,” Alley said. “A lot of it (getting records online) has to do with finical difficulties, there have been a lot of requests for that.”
