Bill Ottney, 92
William E. “Bill” Ottney, 92, of Ft. Meyers, Fla., formerly of New Boston, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, at home.
He was born April 9, 1920, in New Boston; a son of the late Charles and Ella Artis Ottney. Bill was a graduate of Glenwood High School, class of 1938, a graduate of Ohio University and Piedmont Bible college. He was a former pastor at Waits Baptist Church; served on the board at Tri-State Bible College, South Point, was a member of Estero Bay Baptist Church, Fort Myers; where he was the Adult Sunday School Teacher. He was a former member of Faith Baptist Church in Wheelersburg where he was the Adult Sunday School Teacher, and he was a World War II Navy Veteran. He was formerly employed at Marting’s, Colonial Carpet House and Custom Interiors.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Ellen Burton Ottney and his second wife, Shirley Rae Cartee Ottney; four brothers, George, Frank, Kenneth and Charles (Burr); and four sisters, Susie Payton, Helen Wagner, Mayme Sheridan and Mary Giles and two infant siblings.
He is survived by his wife, Estel Williams Ottney, whom he married Nov. 10, 2001, in Ft. Myers. Also surviving are three daughters, Sherry Carver, of Lucasville; Karleen Cartee, of Portsmouth; Lisa Allen and husband Chris, of Wheelersburg; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at Faith Baptist Church, with Bryan White officiating, with interment at Memorial Burial Park, with military graveside rites by the James Irwin Post 622 and the Lucasville William Baker Post 363. Friends may call Monday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Swick-Bussa-Chamberlin Funeral Home in Wheelersburg. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Baptist Church.
