Host Portsmouth had no issues in one of the final tune-ups before next week’s district tournament as the host Trojans swept all five tennis matches against rival Ironton Monday.
The win improves Portsmouth’s record to 9-5 as the team hosts Chillicothe Tuesday in one of the final matches as SEOAL foes. Area tennis coaches will have seed and draw meetings in anticipation of the Oct. 2-3 Division II Southeast Sectional tournament in Portsmouth.

A three-set sweep was the outcome of Monday’s nonconference volleyball match between West Union and host Northwest as the Mohawks improved to 7-6 on the campaign.
Ashley Riley led Northwest with 13 points, nine digs and eight kills while Maegan Lynn added 17 assists, 11 points and a pair of digs. Haleigh Vastine chipped in with 12 kills and six points.
The Mohawks travel Tuesday to Valley.
