2 men charged after altercation with officers

Greenup County Sheriff Keith Cooper is reporting that on Sept. 20th in collaboration with the Kentucky State Police, a roadside checkpoint was held on KY 784.

During the checkpoint a vehicle operated by Stephen Cooley, 37 of Garrison, Lonnie Horsley, 53 of Garrison was also in the vehicle.

As Trooper Nathan Carter approached the driver, Deputy Cody Fuller observed Horsley pull out a 25 cal. pistol from under his seat.

According to released information at that point, Fuller then began to physically retrieve the pistol from Horsley meanwhile Horsley tried to disarm Fuller.

After a physical altercation, Fuller and Trooper Carter were able to restrain Horsley.

Horsley was charged with public intoxication, concealing a deadly weapon, attempting to disarm a peace officer, assault in the third degree, tampering with physical evidence.

Cooley was charged with DUI, no insurance and other traffic offenses. Horsley is being held on a $50,000 cash bond in the Greenup County Detention Center. Cooley plead guilty this morning in front of Judge Brian McCloud.
