The man charged with kidnapping in the reported attempted sexual assault of a woman near Greenlawn Cemetery, continues free on bond after waiving his right to a preliminary hearing.

According to Portsmouth Police Detective Sergeant Jim Charles, Jeff Swick, 24, of West Portsmouth, waived his right to the preliminary hearing on Thursday, his bond was raised, and he was given the right to sign on his own recognizance above the amount he had already bonded out on which had been $20,000. Charles said the next step is that the case will go before a Scioto County grand jury.

Portsmouth Police met with the alleged victim who gave them information about the man she said attacked her while she was jogging in the vicinity of Greenlawn Cemetery. Based on that information, police turned their attention to Swick, and he was arrested as he left his work place Tuesday afternoon.

“We interviewed him and he subsequently confessed to the crime he is charged with (kidnapping),” Charles said at the time of the arrest.

Charles said, at this time, Swick has not been linked to any other incidents.
