Wednesday, September 5, 2012, begins the new school year for the New Boston Local School District.
With the beginning of the school year in any district also comes the increased need to obey the various traffic laws throughout your community. I am aware that many local school district in our area have already started and I believe it extremely important when driving in those districts to please obey the laws as they apply to school bus safety as well.
Here in New Boston we have road construction on Rt. 139 and also construction work on Lakeview Avenue at the new school site. Because of these situations it has been necessary to re-route traffic and we are very aware of the inconveniences this process has been causing people traveling through our village to and from work.
Having said this, it is important to remember safety of everyone is still paramount. Now as school is starting in the village it is even more important to watch for school bus traffic in the mornings as well as the afternoons. Please leave home a little earlier and realize you may be getting home a few minutes later but the safety of our children just as the safety of your children is well worth the price of some inconvenience.
Our police force will be monitoring traffic and ticketing where necessary for noncompliance with the school bus laws. Going around a school bus unloading children is irresponsible not mention just plain stupid. If your child were getting off that bus and someone hit that child with a car going around the bus what would your feelings be?
If you have any questions regarding the times New Boston school buses are on the roads, please contact the principal’s office at Glenwood High School 456-4559. If you have any questions regarding bus times for other school districts a phone call to the principal’s office of that district will give you all the information necessary.
New Boston welcomes everyone to travel through our village, shop in our stores, use our parks and attend our churches. We do however ask you to join us in keeping our most prized possessions, our children safe. Lets be sure children everywhere have a great, safe school year.
