Mae Scaff, 98

Estella Mae Scaff, 98, of Portsmouth, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, at her home.

She was born Jan. 19, 1914, in Upper Tygart, Greenup County, KY.; a daughter of the late William Sylvester and Rosa Belle Wilson Gray. Mae was a homemaker and of the Apostolic faith.

Her husband, Charles Daniel Scaff, Sr., whom she married June 27, 1931 in Vanceburg, KY, preceded her in death Jan. 2, 1989.

Surviving is her son, Charlie D. Scaff, Jr. of Portsmouth; two daughters, Phyllis Purtee of Hot Springs, AR, and Juanita Mae Noel of Columbus; a sister, Rosalie R. Bertram of Cole Grove; twelve grandchildren, Debbie Purtee, Stephanie Stracener, Jennifer Purtee, Greg Purtee, Dale Scaff, Gary Scaff, Dorothy Lewallen, Jerry Noel, Cheryl Dawes, Jeannette Buckler, Teresa Johnson, and Victor Noel; eleven great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and their families.

Mae was also preceded in death by four brothers, David Gray, Paul D. Gray, DeWitt Gray and Edgar Hamm; three sisters, Faye McClellan, Iva Gyor and Alene Thomas; sons and daughters-in-law, Roger Purtee, Nancy Scaff, and Arnold Noel; and a grandson, Charles Noel.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the RALPH F. SCOTT FUNERAL HOME in Portsmouth with Rev. Peter Michael officiating and interment in Memorial Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m., and Monday from 10 am until the funeral hour.
