The Portsmouth Life Center, on 17th Street in Portsmouth, will be closing at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2 and will remain closed through Aug. 5 while crews perform maintenance.

“With nearly 4,000 visitors a week using the facility, many of the items that needed to be done are difficult to complete. Therefore, it is necessary to have a temporary shutdown to allow work crews to finish the job,” said Jim Kolar, of the Portsmouth Life Center, in a letter to its membership.

Kolar said the Portsmouth Life Center closed for a short period last year to allow for certain maintenance projects to be completed, and he anticipates the Portsmouth Life Center closing around this time every year for maintenance. The maintenance items that will be performed this week include refinishing the group fitness studio floor and the basketball court.

“Even though the work performed will be limited to these two areas, the chemicals being used to seal the floor requires us to close the center to keep members, guests, and staff safe,” Kolar wrote.

He said even after the center opens on Aug. 6, the centers basketball court and group fitness studio will remain closed through Aug. 9. Group fitness classes will be moved to the Friends Center from Monday, Aug. 6, through Thursday, Aug. 9.

The Wheelersburg and Lucasville LIFE Center facilities will remain open normal operating hours.
