SOUTH POINT, Ohio — Three people were killed Sunday evening in a crash on County Road 12 in Lawrence County.

According to the Ironton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, their office received a call at about 7:57 p.m. on Sunday reporting a one vehicle crash on County Road 12, four miles north of County Road 411. Within minutes, emergency personnel at the scene reported a fatality.

Killed were Greg Fortner, 52, of Chesapeake, Jami Wood, 51, of Huntington, W.Va., and a third occupant whose name is not being released until authorities have notified the family.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a green 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee failed to negotiate a curve, drove off the left side of the road and struck a tree. The driver and two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene by the Lawrence County Coroner’s Office.

The Highway Patrol did not report who was driving the vehicle, and the crash remains under investigation.
