Virgil Lee Copas, 75, of Lucasville, died Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 27, 1936, in Rush Township, a son of the late Jim and Sarah Ellen Crabtree Copas.
Virgil was a retired Corrections Officer from SOCF, former owner and operator of Copas Grocery on Duck Run, a former Rush Township Trustee, and a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Ellen Stephens Copas, who he married Oct. 18, 1958, in Greenup, Ky.; two daughters, Diana (Mike) Maple of West Portsmouth, and Lisa (Matt) Howard of West Portsmouth; one son, Matthew (Lisa) Copas of Pickerington; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Matt, Chris, Laura, Jacob, C.J., and Adam; two great-grandchildren, Kyleigh and Paul Daniel; three brothers, Carl, Bob and Ronnie Copas, all of Lucasville; one sister, Lois Love of Pickerington.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at Christ’s Restoration Church on Pine Lane with Mike Chaffin officiating. Burial will follow in Scioto Burial Park where military graveside rites will be performed by the James Irwin and William A. Baker Posts of the American Legion. Friends may call 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville and from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
