Alexander P. Dillard, 40, of Dayton, has been arrested and charged with felonious assault for the stabbing of Leo Buggs, 34, of Columbus. The stabbing reportedly occurred at 207 Virginia Drive in Wheelersburg on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014.

According to reports from Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini, said his office received a call from Southern Ohio Medical Center (SOMC) informing them of a male subject who was brought to the emergency room with a stab wound to his abdomen.

Accompanied by a detective, deputies from the sheriff’s office responded to SOMC where a report and statements from witnesses were taken. Donini said Buggs was air-lifted to Cabell County Hospital. Buggs underwent surgery and is listed in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit.

Deputies and detectives responded to the location of the stabbing in Wheelersburg. A discovery was made of an attempt to enter the residence by force by forcing the front door open. When deputies got inside the residence, they were able to detain the suspect for questioning without incident.

Dillard was arrested and charged with one count of felonious assault, a felony of the 2nd degree, and one count of tampering with evidence, a felony of the 3rd degree. Dillard is being held on a $27,500 bond and will appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court.

The investigation is ongoing, and could result in more charges being presented to the Scioto County grand jury on a later date according to the sheriff’s office.
