Five arrested, facing multiple charges

Five people were arrested by the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office after an investigation into a theft in Franklin Furnace.


According to reports from Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini, his office was notified on July 21, 2014, that the fence at the Pepsi plant located at 4587 Gallia Pike, Franklin Furnace, had been cut, and several items stolen. Reports reveal that a lawnmower, hedge trimmer, power washer and Pepsi products were among the items stolen. A deputy went to the location to conduct an investigation, and constructed a report. The report was forwarded to a detective for further investigation.


Detectives have been working on this ongoing investigation which led them along with the Adult Parole authorities to a trailer located at 394 Walburn Ave., in Franklin Furnace. According Donini, after several hours of attempting to get an answer at the door two females did answer the door and informed detectives they were the only ones inside. Detectives search the trailer and located Timothy L. Stapleton, who, according to authorities, was hiding in a small space that the water heater was stored in.


Donini said that during this investigation detectives were able to recover some stolen property from several cases around the Franklin Furnace area to include a computer, iPad and a four-wheeler.


The sheriff said the investigation is ongoing, and anticipates will result in other charges being presented to the Scioto county Grand Jury on a later date on the five suspects and others.


The five subjects arrested include Timothy L. Stapleton, 26, of Northwood Avenue, Franklin Furnace. Stapleton has been charged with one count of breaking & entering a felony of the 5th degree and one count of obstructing justice a felony of the 5th degree, Stapleton is being held on a $5,000 bond. Danielle Caldwell, 18, of Northwood Avenue, Franklin Furnace, was also arrested. Caldwell was charged with one count of obstructing justice a felony of the 5th degree and is being held on a $2,500 bond. Dreama Stapleton, 28, of Walburn Avenue, Franklin Furnace, was also arrested. Dreama Stapleton is being held without bond for a fugitive of justice warrant out of Kentucky.


Matthew Steele, 36, of Napolean Lane, Franklin Furnace, was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence a felony of the 3rd degree, and is being held without bond on a parole holder.


Cody A. Stevens, 23, of Walburn Avenue, in Franklin Furnace, was already in jail on other charges. Stevens has also been charged with one count of breaking and entering a felony of the 5th degree, and is being held without bond.


These subjects will appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Aug. 21,2014.
