SSU Sports Report
Shawnee State men’s soccer has announced the signing of Northwest High School’s Gabe Howard. Howard is set to join the Bears for the fall of 2014 after earning first-team All-District honors during both his junior and senior seasons.
“I chose Shawnee State because it is in my community as well as the school’s excellent Pre-Med program,” explained Howard at the time of his signing.
Howard was a four-year letterwinner for the Northwest Mohawks in both soccer and track during his high school career. The local product finished his high school career with a bang as he scored a career-high 25 goals, while recording another four assists in his final high school season. That senior campaign came on the heels of a 17 goal and career-high five assist season as a junior. For his career, Howard finished with 55 goals and 12 assists.
“Gabe is a hard worker on and off the field. He is a player who really came on strong his last two seasons at Northwest,” stated Assistant Coach Mark Trapp. “Through hard work and dedication, Gabe put himself at the top of the league with his speed and goal scoring ability. I believe he will continue to work hard and be a big asset to the success of SSU’s program.”
In addition to being a first-team All-District selection during his final two seasons, Howard was also named first-team All-Conference and Team MVP during those final two seasons.
Howard is the son of Amanda and John Howard. He is planning on studying Pre-Med while at Shawnee State.
