Northwest wins SOC I/SOC II battle over Clay

The Northwest Mohawks scored a combined total of 10 runs in the first and third innings en route to a 13-1 victory over Clay Tuesday evening in five innings.

Flip Cassidy led the Mohawks by going 2-for-4 from the plate with a home run and four RBI while also adding a double and two runs to his statline.

Wade Gillette had a perfect day at the dish (3-for-3) with an RBI and two runs scored while Matt Penix went 2-for-3 on the evening with three runs scored and two RBI.

Logan Kongos, who went 2-for-4 from the plate, gave up a single run in five full innings pitched for the Mohawks. Drew Hadsell led Clay as the freshman went 2-for-2 at the dish and accounted for Clay’s lone RBI on the evening.

Kelsey Conkey recorded her third complete game in three starts this seasonas Minford defeated Portsmouth 12-2 in five innings Tuesday evening.

Conkey, who recorded 10 strikeouts and gave up just one earned run on the mound, had a great day at the plate as well as she went 2-for-4 with a home run, 3 RBI, a double, and a run scored. Katie Grose went a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish and added three RBI of her own to lead the Falcons.

New Boston used a six-run fourth inning to capture a 14-4 victory over Oak Hill in five innings.

Kiersten McGraw was a force from the dish as the senior went 4-for-4 with five RBI, four runs, three stolen bases, and two doubles on the evening.
