Letter to the editor

March 18, 2014

On Sunday March 16th, 2014 a comic strip was published in your paper that mocked Creation. As a Christian who holds a biblical world view, I find the comic strip to be highly offensive. I also know that I am not the only one. Portsmouth Daily Times has been serving the Southern Ohio community since the 1800’s. For many locals the morning newspaper has become a Sunday staple. Portsmouth Daily Times has also been well connected to it’s community and has continually represented it’s readers well. So, when I first read the comic strip I could not believe what I was seeing and immediately I knew this could not be tolerated. Clearly a disconnect between PDT and it’s subscribers happened somewhere. A disconnect that needs to be addressed. Let me paint you a picture. From my front porch, any Sunday I could find myself welcomed into at least 10 Christian churches within a 5 mile radius. That’s at least 10 churches full of worshipers who read the Portsmouth Daily Times and believe with every fiber of their being that God created the earth and all that we see in 6 days and rested on the 7th. Not because He was “tired,” but for an example to His beloved man. Despite what you may believe, we are still a Christian community, and we do have voice. It is my desire that in the future the Portsmouth Daily Times pays close attention to the content it publishes and considers the majority of it’s readers when doing so. Also, an open public apology wouldn’t hurt either. I do thank you for your time and attention concerning this matter. The Portsmouth Daily Times is at the heart of this community, a heart that loves the Lord and believes in a biblical creation. Your Christian Reader,
