Whether you’re someone with a tendency to take to the floor when the music starts, or just like to sit and tap your feet, you’re going to fit right in at the Spring Fling fundraiser benefiting Scioto County Habitat for Humanity, Saturday, March 29 in the Sodexo Ballroom located on the campus of Shawnee State University.
“It’s a fun evening. And I tell people, you don’t have to dance,” Chairperson for the event, Nancy Donini, said. “We have Doc Roc and the Remedies. And if you just want to sit there and enjoy the music, don’t feel like you have to get up and dance at all. I have some friends who are going this year that I think are going to be dancers. I have friends who go everywhere dancing. So they could be a fun group to watch.”
The highlights of the event are a dinner and dance, and a silent auction. The event begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 10:30 p.m. The dinner is at 6:30 p.m. and is prepared by the Sodexo crew.
“It’s just a wonderful dinner. The desserts are out of this world,” Donini said. “There’s plenty to eat. No one will go hungry.”
Bidding on the silent auction is from 6-9 p.m. Donini talked about why the event is so important.
“We really want to build a house this year,” Donini said. “We did not build last year. We built two, in 2011 and 2012. And we just weren’t able to build a house last year. We really want to, and this will help a lot for us to get funds to get started.”
Donini said some people may not be aware of how Habitat for Humanity builds houses. She said they don’t just build them and give them to someone.
“It’s a hand up, not a hand out,” Donini said.
Donini said more information about Scioto County Habitat for Humanity is available at www.sciotohabitat.org.
Donini said it is also important for people to know there is a limit of 200 tickets for Spring Fling, so they should get their tickets early. Tickets are $35, $20 of which is tax deductible. They are available at the Welcome Center (Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce) 342 Second St. in Portsmouth or by calling her at 740-858-5429 or Judy Meeker at 740-821-0836.
