Ky. man arrested for abusing 2-month old

BOYD COUNTY, Ky. —The Kentucky State Police in Ashland, Ky., arrested Shannon Wagoner, 32, of Grayson, Ky., after conducting an investigation into the assault of a two-month old infant.

According to KSP, on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, a two-month old infant was taken to King’s Daughters Medical Center to be treated for a head injury. Due to the nature of the injury, the infant was transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital, in Huntington, W.Va., for treatment and the Kentucky State Police was contacted.

Detective Jeff Kelley responded and began an investigation into the cause of the injury. Through the investigation, Kelley determined Shannon Wagoner, the infant’s father, had struck the infant in the head causing the injury.

According to KSP, the assault occurred at a residence in Carter County, and Wagoner was arrested Wednesday at a location in Boyd County. At the time of his arrest Wagoner had illegal items in his possession. He was lodged in the Boyd County Detention Center and charged with domestic violence assault in the first degree, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The case remains under investigation by KSP Detective Jeff Kelley.
