The North Adams athletic department announced the inaugural Coach Young Classic that will take place Nov. 30 and will include a number of area teams.
The day will include five boys and one girls basketball games and will start at 11 a.m. with Whiteoak against West Union. The second game, which is slated for 12:45 p.m., will feature Peebles against Wheelersburg.
After the North Adams girls take the floor to play Manchester, boys action resumes with Racine Southern and Manchester. The night concludes with Sardinia Eastern against Chesapeake and the host Green Devils against South Webster. The finale is slated to have an 8 p.m. tip.
The tournament is named after the late North Adams coach Dave Young. Admission is $8 with hand stamps for all fans throughout the day and all proceeds will go to the Young Memorial Scholarship Foundation, which was created to honor the memory of coach Young and his brother, Mark.
An all-day split the pot, shirts and other Classic-related items will be available to purchase throughout the day. Winners of the split the pot do not have to be present to win.
Dave Young was the former basketball coach at North Adams, West Union and Whiteoak, where he compiled a career record of 403-189. In 24 years in charge of the Green Devils, Young had 362 wins and led North Adams to the 1996 Final Four.
