The Scioto County Democratic Party will host its annual Fall Banquet fundraiser at the James Dickey American Legion Post 23, in Portsmouth, on Oct. 17. This year’s guest speaker is former state representative from Marietta, and candidate for the Ohio 6th House District, Jennifer Garrison. Tickets are available now.

“She’s going to be talking about right to work, and she’s going to be talking about some of the jobs for southern Ohio,” said Randy Basham of the Scioto County Democratic Party.

Basham said that one look at what’s happening in Washington now will tell you why it’s important to support the party.

“Mitch McConnell took the floor as soon as Obama was elected and said, ‘Our main objective, the first point of order is to oppose any and everything he (Obama) has done,’ including his jobs bill and all the other programs he’s done to put people to work,” he said.

The Scioto County Women’s Federated Democratic Club will also have a silent auction at the banquet to help raise money for the party. Basham said the club auctions items each year, such as democratic badges, convention materials, books written by democratic leaders, and more.

The Democratic Party’s Fall Banquet begins with social hour at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are available by contacting Angela Davis at 740-935-7355. Tickets cost $30 each, or $40 for a patron ticket to have your name featured in the banquet program.

The Scioto County Republican Party will also have its Fall Rally on Nov. 2 at York Park.
