Steve Sturgill, President of Portsmouth City Council, said Council will officially welcome the three invited candidates for the Portsmouth city manager position by holding a public meet and greet on Monday, Sep. 9 at 4:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Portsmouth Holiday Inn, prior to Monday’s regularly scheduled City Council meeting.
Sturgill announced on Friday (Aug. 30) that Council with the help of the consulting firm hired to help with the search, had narrowed down its choices to Derek Allen, a village administrator in Delta, Ohio; Patti Bates, village administrator in Williamsburg, Ohio and Steve Golnar, a former city manager of Rawlins, Wyoming.
Council is expected to make a decision after the candidates are interviewed and have an opportunity to tour Portsmouth and meet with residents. The city manager form of government kicks in on Jan. 1, 2014 as a result of Portsmouth residents voting in November of 2011 to change from the current strong mayor form of government.
Sturgill said the public is encouraged to attend and welcome the three candidates to Portsmouth.
