Newly appointed Third Ward Councilman Kevin E. Johnson will have two write-in challengers in his first race to be elected to that post in November. Scioto County Board of Elections Deputy Director Teresa Knittel says two people have come forward to be write-in candidates in the Third Ward. Knittel said Lance Richardson and Jeff Burchett have filed to challenge Johnson.
Kevin E. Johnson was appointed to the Third Ward Council position when elected Third Ward Councilman Nick Basham resigned because he was in the process of moving to Lawrence County, Ohio, where he is employed.
“We also have two people who have filed to be write-ins for City School Board,” Knittel said. “George Pettit and Barbara Borden Gibson.”
Both Pettit and Gibson are already on the Portsmouth Board of Education.
“They were both up, and they did not file. They just filed as a write-in,” Knittel said. “No one had filed so they came in after the fact, after the filing deadline, and filed to be write-ins.”
Knittel said there is one more person who got in under the write-in filing deadline.
“For Nile Township Trustee we have a Jack Mullett,” Knittel said.
