The Minford School Board accepted the resignation of Superintendent Mark Wilcheck during a meeting on Aug. 12, and officially given the job to Assistant Superintendent Barbara Dever.
“I graduated from here in 1980 and I have lived in this district all my life, and I have strong connections to this district. So it really makes it all positive, and we just want to work together and move forward. With the great community we have here, I think it’s going to work out just fine,” Dever said.
Wilcheck announced in February that he and the school board have mutually agreed to part ways at the end of his contract in December. Previously at Cardington Local Schools, north of Columbus, Wilcheck was hired by the Minford School Board in November 2008. His first day with the district was in January 2009. After a series of special school board meetings in February, Wilcheck and the board announced that they will not renew his contract when it expires on Dec. 31, 2013.
Previously the Minford High School Principal, Dever was hired as assistant superintendent on July 8 to transition into the superintendent’s seat upon Wilcheck’s departure. It came much sooner than they had expected, when Wilcheck delivered his written resignation, effective immediately, on Aug. 2.
The Minford School Board met on Aug. 12 and accepted Wilcheck’s resignation, and Dever assumed the role of superintendent. She said she has been working with Wilcheck to prepare for this transition, and even though it came very quickly she is ready for the job.
“The school board and I have talked, and we want to revisit the school’s mission and vision plan to make sure that we’re all setting our goal as the same thing so we can all work together to reach that goal. I don’t know that our current one is bad, but we just want to revisit and draw on that, and get a new focus,” Dever said.
Students return to Minford School to begin another year on Tuesday.
