Several people have been injured, two critically, in a two-vehicle crash on Ohio 73. The Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash involving four adults and one juvenile that occurred around 8:14 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection with Calverts Lane in West Portsmouth.
Troopers said a 2010 Toyota Corolla driven by Dustin Young was traveling south on Ohio 73 while a 2000 Dodge Durango driven by Vernon Ingles was traveling on Calverts Lane and attempting to turn left onto Ohio 73. Troopers said Ingles failed to yield to the car driven by Young and was struck in the left side.
Ingles suffered serious injuries and was transported to Grant Hospital Trauma Center in Columbus. Cindy Hill, a passenger in Ingles vehicle, suffered injuries to her left arm and was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center. Jessica Young, a passenger in Dustin Young’s vehicle, suffered serious injuries to her leg and back and was flown from the scene to St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. Caleb Young, a 9-week-old infant son of Dustin and Jessica Young, suffered minor injuries and was treated at SOMC.
Troopers told the Daily Times alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by personnel of the Portsmouth Post.
