Police search for jewel thief

The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a person they wish to question in a major jewelry theft Friday on Junior Furnace Powellsville Road in Franklin Furnace. In that incident a 9-year-old child was home alone and allowed a man who claimed to be a friend of his father, enter the home to use the bathroom. According to the report, the man went to the master bedroom upstairs, and later when the mother returned, it was determined some $10,492 in jewelry was missing.

Taken were a panda ring valued at $250; a Princess Diana wedding set, valued at $5,000; a black onyx men’s ring, valued at $1,000 and other miscellaneous rings, valued at $50. The man was, according to the report, operating a grey pickup truck with camouflage across the rear window.

Also on Friday someone kicked in the door of a house on Norwich Avenue in Franklin Furnace and took a pump rifle B-B gun, valued at $100.

Meanwhile, on Saturday on Big Pete Road in Franklin Furnace, someone broke into a home and took a jewelry box with precious metals, valued at $1,000; an engagement ring, valued at $5,000; a wedding ring, valued at $500. In addition the thief or thieves also took a 40-inch TV, valued at $500; surround sound air track, valued at $300; a Blu-Ray player, valued at $100; a 20-gauge shotgun, valued at $250 and a bag of toiletries and accessories valued at $50.
