The annual Northend Super Reunion is set to take place this weekend. This event occurs every four years and organizers are estimating 350 people to be in attendance throughout the event.
“We have all kinds of activities scheduled for the reunion this time. We’re going to start things off with a welcome reception and a balloon launch on the fourth. Registration will be throughout that day, we (will) have a memorial wall on display the whole weekend,” said Deanne Malone, reunion chairwoman. “The memorial wall is a tribute to deceased residents of the Northend. We’ve done a lot of research and will post their obituaries on the memorial wall. If we’ve left anyone off, we give family members the opportunity to include their loved ones name on the memorial wall.”
She said the memorial wall and registration will be located at the 14th Street Community Center. Other activities of the reunion include a meet and greet on the fourth.
On Friday, July 5 the reunion will celebrate the senior citizens with a brunch.
“Our senior celebration is a brunch dedication to them. At the brunch there will be some give-a-ways and a health clinic. Participants will be able to get their blood pressure checked, sugar levels checked and a number of other things checked,” Malone said. “That evening we will have a banquet at the Friends Center.”
Saturday’s activities include a picnic in Bannon Park staring at noon.
“We are going to be serving anybody that shows up. There is going to be a whole lot of activities going on at that time including the annual Bannon Pack Classic (basketball tournament),” Malone said.
She said events for Saturday will conclude with a Chocolate and Champagne Ball.
“We will have a Chocolate and Champagne Ball on Saturday evening starting at 9 p.m. at the Friends Center. This is where everyone gets together and is wearing their finest ware,” Malone said. “The (Bannon Park) classic will continue through Sunday and we will finalize (the reunion) with a celebration at 4 p.m.”
Malone said the Northend Super Reunion has become quite the tradition.
“It gets bigger every reunion, our ultimate goal, to make it (the reunion) bigger and better than the last one,” Malone said. “We will typically see around 350 people attend the reunion and this time we are hoping to exceed that amount.”
