Howard Joseph Montavon, 87

Howard Joseph Montavon, 87, of Rosemount, died Thursday, May 30, 2013 at his residence.

He was born Aug. 6, 1925 at Pond Creek, Ohio the son of the late Lawrence and Blanche Montavon. Howard was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church a retired school bus driver and a retired employee of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. He was a World War II Marine Veteran having received a Purple Heart.

He was preceded in death by his wife Catherine Montavon on May 24, 1998.

Surviving are his sons Leo (Kim) Montavon of Columbus, Howard Montavon II of Ottawa, Canada, Jeffrey (Linda) Montavon of Wheelersburg; his grandchildren Heather Nix, Jeffrey Montavon, Melanie Robinson, Michael Montavon, Nicholas Montavon and Nadine Montavon; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother Tony Montavon of Pond Creek.

He was also preceded in death by one son John Montavon, two brothers William Montavon and Harold Montavon; three sisters Ruth Tracey, Madeline Hoover and Annie Donini.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday June 3, 2013 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, West Portsmouth. with Rev. David Young officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Melcher Funeral Home. There will be a Prayer Service Sunday 8 p.m. at Melcher Funeral Home. Military Graveside Rites will be by James Dickey Post 23 American Legion.
