Wheelersburg moves past Minford 8-1

Top-seeded Wheelersburg used a seven-run second inning to defeat Minford 8-1 and advance in the Division III Sectional Tournament.

Zach Brown hit a three-run home run in the second to lead the Pirates offensively. Brown finished the game going 1-for-3 with the aforementioned home run and he had three runs batted in to lead the club.

Wheelersburg awaits the winner of No. 4 Albany Alexander and No. 5 Stewart Federal Hocking.

No. 3 Notre Dame upended No. 2 Eastern Meigs 9-3 in the Division IV Sectional Tournament.

Michael Mader contributed to the cause offensively as he went 5-for-5 with a double, four RBI and a run scored.

Will Haney picked up the victory allowing three runs, two of which were earned, while striking out five batters. Haney also helped himself at the plate going 2-for-4 with a walk and RBI.

Notre Dame travels to VA Memorial Stadium Monday to take on top-seeded Whiteoak.

West beat South Point 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning in the Division III Sectional Tournament.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Wesley Book attempted to steal third base. The errant throw went into left field, which allowed Book to score the game winning run.

Luke Morgan threw a one hitter while shutting out South Point. Morgan finished the game with 11 strike outs and one walk.

West travels Thursday to the VA Memorial Stadium to take on top-seeded Piketon.

Rock hill defeated Portsmouth 2-1 in the Division III Sectional Tournament.


Brody Shoupe and Zach Delotell led the way offensively for the Trojans. Shoupe finished the game 1-for-4 with an RBI and Delotell went 2-for-3 with a double. Senior Levi Porter suffered the loss in the pitchers dual. Porter finished the game allowing two runs, one of which was earned, on six hits.


Portsmouth loses Porter, Dylan Martin and Justin Ohm to graduation.

Oak Hill beat Ironton in a low-scoring contest 2-1 to move on the the Division III sectional tournament. Drew Haislop knocked in both of the Oaks’ runs in the bottom of the second inning.

The Tigers scored their lone run in the top of the fifth inning from an RBI by Mo Phillips.

No. 5 Northwest lost to fourth-seeded Eastern Brown 2-0 in the Division III Sectional Tournament. The Mohawks were technically the visiting team but due to field conditions at Eastern Brown, Northwest played on its home turf.

Northwest finished the season with an 11-16 record and 2-12 conference mark. Wyatt Bazler is the only player leaving the Mohawks squad due to graduation.

Sydney Carter and Cami Whitley led the way offensively. Carter finished the game 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored. Whitley went 1-for-1 with three walks, 2 RBI and scored a run of her own.
