The 23rd Annual Bloom-Vernon Community Health Fair will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the South Webster High School gymnasium.
Event Coordinator Rodney Barnett said more than 40 health-related agencies have confirmed that they will participate, including representatives from Southern Ohio Medical Center, King’s Daughters Medical Center, Adena Medical Center and Holzer Medical Center.
“We do this because it’s the normal 55 Club meeting,” Barnett said. “They decided years ago to come over to the school, and they are guests of the school for lunch and accommodations, and that is why we have always had it on the third Wednesday in April.”
Participants can receive various tests, screens and information simply by attending the event. Barnett said, again this year a blood drive is being coordinated with the Ohio River Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross and a mammography bus will be present for those having made prior arrangements.
“The community has been very receptive, very supportive,” Barnett said. “We’ll have over a thousand individuals in the gymnasium during the four-hour period, but that includes the student body; probably a hundred plus employees, and many many residents from the community, and neighboring communities.”
Barnett said there are many benefits derived from the event.
“The benefit is awareness, wellness, preventative,” Barnett said. “Maybe something can be diagnosed a little earlier versus later. That’s always a plus.”
Barnett said anyone who is part of an agency wishing to have a table at the event may call him at 740-778-0001 during school days and hours, or at 740-778-2110 during evening hours.
