The Notre Dame Schools announces the formation of a new scholarship for Notre Dame Junior/Senior High students (grades 7-12). William Schoonover and Janet Peery Bowman have established The Schoonover and Bowman Endowment and Trust which will fund this new scholarship.

Mr. Schoonover, a 1969 graduate of Notre Dame High School, is establishing this scholarship in memory of his dear wife, Donna and her loving grandmother, Dorothy Hacker Gee. Mrs. Bowman, a 1949 graduate of Holy Redeemer, is creating the scholarship in memory of her dear son, Steve Bowman.

Donna Schoonover was a hospice nurse and her grandmother was a teacher. Steve Bowman worked in human resources and had his own business. Steve Bowman and Donna Schoonover both died from the same type of cancer. Janet’s daughter has also suffered from cancer twice. William and Janet’s hope is that this endowment will help discover a new and creative mind with the inspiration to crack the cancer code, develop a cure and end the misery and suffering from this disease for all future generations.

This endowment will make funds available each year in the amount of $6,000.00 to help students in grades 7-12 at Notre Dame Junior Senior High with tuition. The Endowment should last at least 25 years.

Guidelines and applications for the scholarship will be available on The Notre Dame Schools’ website at www.notredameschools.com
