Coaches with District 14 of the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association released its all-district boys basketball list with the region’s best players being honored for their recognition.
Among area teams, Peebles’ Trent Arey was named Division III Player of the Year while Eastern senior Chad Lands and coach P.J. Fitch swept the player and coaches honors in Division IV respectively. Arey will play in the Division III and IV North/South Game while Lands will be the alternate.
In Division II, Waverly’s Jean Paul White was a Second Team selection in his final season while classmate Phillip Hart was Honorable Mention. In Division III, First Team honors locally went to Arey, teammate Beau Justice, Minford’s Austin McBee and Piketon’s Zach Farmer.
Division III Second Team honors went to Northwest’s Drew Scarberry, Portsmouth’s Jayllen Carter, Valley’s Hayden Dunn and Piketon’s Craigen Moore. Piketon’s Isaac Brabson, Wheelersburg’s Dylan Miller and Minford’s Jared McCray garnered Thrid Team while Minford’s Kenton Gullion, Northwest’s Marcus Potter, Peebles’ Marcus Potter, Piketon’s Colton Williams, Portsmouth’s Ky’re Allison, West’s J.B. Travis and Valley’s Jordan West were all Honorable Mention.
In Division IV, Lands was joined on First Team by Notre Dame’s J.P. Kayser, East’s Patrick Bias and South Webster’s Seth Goddard. Second Team honors locally went to Eastern’s Tavares Pickett, New Boston’s Shane Buckley, Notre Dame’s Kevin Lewis and East’s Justin Crager.
Lastly, Honorable Mention honors were given to Clay’s Eldin Sarajlic, Eastern’s Colton Ligthle, Green’s Tyler Crace, New Boston’s Brendan Herrforth, Notre Dame’s Michael Mader, East’s Tyler Bradford, South Webster’s Levi Cook and Western’s Nick Shanks. This week is the regional tournament for the remaining boys teams in the state of Ohio.
Next week, the Associated Press will release its All-State list in preparation for the state tournament. Last week, members of the media in the Southeast District released its list of the top players in the region.
