More than 25 employers with jobs available are expected to be in attendance when the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the American Legion host a Hiring Our Heroes Job Fair for Veterans and Military Spouses in Portsmouth on Thursday, Feb. 21, from 1 until 4 p.m. at American Legion Post 471, located at 950 Gallia Street in Portsmouth.
According to the Chamber, employers will participate with jobs available for veterans and military spouses of all ranks and levels of experience. Companies range from America’s biggest employers to dozens of small companies from the region.
The event is being held in partnership with the American Legion, the Portsmouth Area Chamber of Commerce, the Department of Labor Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (DOL VETS), the Ohio Committee of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and other local partners.
The Chamber says since its launch in March 2011, Hiring Our Heroes has held more than 400 hiring fairs nationwide, which have helped over 14,000 veterans and military spouses find employment. This event is also part of Hiring 500,000 Heroes, a national campaign announced by the U.S. Chamber, National Chamber Foundation, and Capital One, to engage the business community in committing to hire 500,000 veterans and military spouses by the end of 2014.
Interested job seekers should register for free online at hoh.greatjob.net. Walk-in job seekers are allowed and veterans must provide proof of service.
The National Chamber Foundation, a non-profit affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, is dedicated to identifying and fostering public debate on emerging critical issues.
