SWMD public meeting Feb. 19
The Lawrence-Scioto Solid Waste Management District Board of Directors’ quarterly meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 19, at noon, at the Holiday Inn, 711 Second St., in Portsmouth. The meeting is open to the public.

Cultural Affairs panel takes requests
The Cultural Affairs Panel notifies all organizations which wish to be considered for a portion of the one-third hotel/motel tax can obtain an application and a copy of the ordinance detailing eligibility criteria at the city clerk’s office, 728 Second St., Room 24, Municipal Building, 2nd Floor. Written requests must be completed and returned to the city clerk’s office by 3 p.m. on Feb. 22, 2013.
County Board of Health meeting
The Scioto County Board of Health will meet Friday, Feb. 15, at 11 a.m. in the first floor conference room of Scioto County Court House.
Free health screenings
Free screening and education for Cholesterol, Blood Pressure, and Diabetes will be available to the community on Friday March 8, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Kroger’s on 9101 Ohio River Road, in Wheelersburg.
Total Cholesterol and Glucose can be non-fasting. Lipid Panel (cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL & LDL) require9 fasting for 9-12 hours.

Piketon Plant Retirees to meet at Gatti’s Pizza
Retirees of the Piketon Plant, both hourly and salary, are invited to meet for their monthly luncheon on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 11 a.m. at Gatti’s Pizza, located at 1658 11th Street in Portsmouth. Spouses are also encouraged to attend.

Minford School Board meeting
The Minford School Board of Education will be holding a special board meeting to discuss the Superintendent’s contract. The meeting will be Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 6 p.m. in the High School Media Center, located at 491 Bond Road, in Minford.
SCCTC School Board Meeting
Scioto County Career Technical Center Regular Board Meeting will be held on Feb. 14 at 5 p.m. and will be held in the Taylor Building of the school, at 951 Vern Riffe Drive.
Master Gardener Program
Greenup County Cooperative Extension Service is offering a Master Gardener Program, Feb. 26 through June 4, at the Greenup County Extension Office, from noon until 2 p.m. There is a $60.00 fee for the class to cover a textbook, and there is a minimum of 10 students per class for class to be held.
As a Master Gardener you will help County Extension Agents reach more residents who have gardening problems by working in information booths at community events, teaching horticulture to beginning gardeners, and conducting community service projects. To become a Master Gardener you must successfully complete the training program and volunteer 30 hours of time using your training.

SOPOC workshop, Feb. 21
The Southern Ohio Procurement Outreach Center presents a free workshop on government contracting: “Government Marketing 101: An Introduction to Government Procurement”
This workshop is designed to give business owners an overview of the government procurement process, and will discuss various ways SOPOC can help your business to expand its market to include local, state, and federal buyers. All small businesses considering expansion into the government-contracting arena on the federal, state, or local levels are encouraged to attend. Topics will include necessary registrations, small business designations, contracting resources, and details of the contracting process, finding opportunities, the bid process, subcontracting, and working with specific agencies.
