Greenup Extension Writers Club
Tuesday, Feb 5, 6-8 p.m.will start a series of club meetings for adult writers at the Extension office. This group will meet bi-weekly with a specific writing focus and guided by guest speakers and multi-media materials. No experience necessary—only a love for writing! You will start with poetry and short story writing with an emphasis on effective critique skills. 19 years and above only please. All material will be family friendly.
Actors for Children’s Theatre will premier: “The Emperor’s New Clothes”
Saturday, Feb 9, 1 p.m. is the free premier performance of this classic tale. Target audience is preschool and elementary ages. Children will enjoy this interactive story and learn about basic elements of drama and communication. Lights snacks will be provided. Don’t miss it—guaranteed fun for all ages.
“Call of the Wild” Visual Art project
Come to a free charcoal art workshop at the Extension office on Monday, Feb 18, 6-8 p.m. Bring a picture of your dog or choose a sled dog from Jack London’s classic book (we’ll have that material for you) to use as you create a portrait using charcoal. The top three pieces will become part of the traveling art exhibit in connection with the “Big Read” project from the National Endowment for the Arts as partnered with the Paramount Arts Center. Open to all ages and all artistic abilities. Please call to register.
A Voice for Singing
Do you like to sing? Would you like to be a better singer? Do you sing “by ear” or do you read music? Why is it important to warm up your voice and how do you do that? What voice part do you sing? How do you sing a long time and keep your voice healthy? What is harmony and how do you sing it? Come to a freeworkshop at the Extension office on Tuesday, March 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. and get answers to all of these questions and more. Workshop is open to any age and skill level.
Origami Art Folded paper art projects
Come to a free Origami (Japanese paper folding) workshop at the Extension office on Tuesday, March 19 from 6 p.m.—8 p.m. and/or Saturday, March 30, from 10 a.m. until noon. All supplies provided. Open to all ages! Choose from origami birds, bugs, fish, flowers, and a variety of shapes.
Greenup Coffee House
Come and learn some secrets of coffee roasting / brewing / mixing, sample some coffee, and enjoy a comfortable concert in “coffee house” style. Featuring a Barista from Starbucks and local musicians. Event is free and open to the public. Workshop beginning at 6 p.m., concert 7:30—9:30 p.m. Friday, March 15.
