The community is invited to get an up-close look at Adena Health System’s da Vanci Surgical System robot during a public open house Monday at the Oscar’s Grill on Second Street in Portsmouth. Before the public event, area physicians are invited to a private showing where they can “test drive” the robot.
Aquired by Adena last fall, the da Vinci Surgical System is the only surgical robot in Ohio south of I-70 and east of I-71. According to Adena, some 60-70 procedures have been performed so far, by Adena surgeons using robotic technology. The technology means smaller incisions, less internal stress on the body and faster recovery times for patients.
“Instead of competing for patients, this is an opportunity to provide patients in the Scioto County area with an option for this minimally-invasive surgery without having to travel to metropolitan areas, which are often quite a distance from home,” said Maria Smith, Adena Communications Manager.
Smith said that Dr. Bill Sever, chair of the Adena robotic surgery program, has had discussions in recent weeks with a number of Portsmouth area physicians who are excited about this surgical option Adena can provide for their patients.
“We expect several of these physicians to join us during the physician event,” Smith said.
The physician open house is Monday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Oscar’s Grill, inside the Holiday Inn on Second Street in Portsmouth, where area providers will have an opportunity to speak with Adena surgeons who are using the robot for a number of general, gynecologic and urologic surgeries. The general public open house follows from 3-6 p.m.
