A New Boston man has died in his cell at the Scioto County Corrections Center of what the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office describes as an apparent suicide. The Sheriff’s Office has identified the man as Jason T. Brown, 35, of 3201 Rhodes Avenue.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini reports his office has asked for the assistance of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification in that incident.

Donini said inmate lockdown is at 10 p.m. daily, and that at around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, while the Corrections Center staff was conducting an inmate count, they observed one of the inmates was not in his bunk of his cell. Upon further investigation staff found the inmate was hanging inside of his secured cell.

Donini identified the inmate as Brown, who was being held on charges of a failure to appear indictment and a theft Bench Warrant from Scioto County Common Pleas Court.

Donini said the inmate was being held in a single cell lock down area of the jail being the only inmate in the cell.

Scioto County Coroner Dr. Darrin Adams ordered Brown’s body sent to the Montgomery County Morgue.
