Frank Leslie Veazey went home to be with the Lord and loved ones on Dec. 28, 2012. Frank was born in the family home in Nile Township, Scioto County, Ohio, on May 29, 1921, to Orin Leslie and Nancy Belle Metzger Veazey, one of two children and the only son of his parents.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mary Elizabeth Veazey Bolender of Georgetown, Ohio; his wife of 55 years, Loretta B. Egbert Veazey; and son-in-law, Robert L. (Bob) Adams, Jr.
He is survived by six children: Ruth Ann Adams of Waverly, Ohio, Willa O’Neill of Marietta, Ohio, Donita (Raleigh, Butch) Smith of Waldo, Ohio, Donna Veazey of Portsmouth, Ohio, Debbie (Steve) McGinnis of Portsmouth, Ohio, and only son, Frank William (Barb) Veazey of Portsmouth, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, Robert L. Adams, III, Shawn Adams, Erin O’Neill, Deirdre Wedig, Ryan Smith, Lesley Marsh, Billie Smith, Chris McGinnis, Becky Kalb, Michael Veazey and Jessica Tolbert; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Frank was a proud veteran of World War II, having served as a Staff Sergeant in the 69th Calvary Reconnaissance Troop of the United States Army. He was most proud of his participation in the link-up of advance units of the American 69th infantry division and the Russian 58th guard division at Torgau-on-the-Elbe River campaign, which served as a major turning point of the war.
Upon returning home from the war, he met and married Loretta Egbert, with whom he successfully reared and educated their six children, while pursuing a 30-year career as a bus driver for Atlantic Greyhound. Until the ripe age of 90, he enjoyed his favorite pastime which was farming on the Veazey homestead.
Throughout his lifetime, he enjoyed his friends, loved his family and will be missed by many.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at F.C. Daehler Mortuary Company in Portsmouth, with Pastor Tom Charles officiating.
