The Shawnee State University Alumni Association is set to host Marriage, Mob and Murder, an interactive murder mystery on Saturday, Jan. 12. Proceeds from the event will benefit the newly established SSU Alumni Legacy Scholarship.
“This is something that’s new, different and exciting in town and this is something SSU has not hosted before,” Denise Gregory, Coordinator of Alumni and Retiree Services for SSU. “They do these in larger cities and I think it’s going to be an evening of fun and something totally different.”
The event is performed by Murder and Merriment Theatre Troop of Ashland, Ky with help from attendees.
Gregory said as a part of the event, an Italian dinner will be served featuring lasagna, fettuccine Alfredo and spaghetti served with an Italian wine and an array of specialty dishes and desserts.
She said the premise of dinner is, there is a bride, a groom and a feuding mob family and the result is chaos.
“We are also using this event to kick-off the SSU Alumni Legacy Scholarship. The scholarship is to assist full-time freshman who are the children or grandchildren of an SSU alumni and entering their first-year at Shawnee State,” Gregory said.
The event begins at 7 p.m. in the Sodexo Ballroom in the SSU University Center, but participants are asked to arrive at 6:45 p.m.
“I just want people to know it’s going to be a night of fun. It’s dinner, it’s wine and it’s Italian food. It will be a wedding, kind of. I just want people to know it will be a light fun evening,” Gregory said. “Who knows, you may even have a character sit at your table and give you hints.”
It’s requested that reservations be made by Jan. 4 by calling 740-351-3182 or purchase tickets online at 2013mysterydinner.eventbrite.com. Tickets are $45 each or 2 for $80.
