MedFlight, a not-for-profit, air and ground critical care transportation company based in Columbus with a base in Lucasville, will be conducting a toy drive Saturday to help local children in need.

According to Amanda Ball, Outreach Coordinator for MedFlight, this is the second year MedFlight has conducted a toy drive with the toys collected going to local children in need.

“On Dec. 15 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. all of our bases statewide, all helicopter and mobile intensive care units are going to have a toy drive at the same time. Each base is going to pick a local charity to donate the collected toys to,” Ball said.

She said the local charity for the Lucasville base is New Boston Police Department Toy Drive.

The address of the Lucasville base is 7106 Big Bear Creek Road.

“For every donation, people will get a 2013 MedFlight calendar. Those are hot commodities this time of year,” Ball said. “All of the toys need to be new and unwrapped. Toys are needed for all age ranges. We had a lot of toys for small children last year. This year we’ve had quite a few requests for toys for older kids. But, any age range is fine.”

She said this is one of the many ways MedFlight attempts to give back to the communities in which they serve.

“Every base we have is a rural base except for one and we are sometimes the only means for a toy drive in some of these areas. Last year was very successful and southern Ohio was the most successful between our Lucasville and Wellston bases, we had quite a few toys dropped off,” Ball said. “This has had a positive impact on the communities and this is only our second year. We are in rural areas across the state and a lot of those families have been affected by the economy and the job situation. We are in a unique position, where we can give back to the entire state, not just one local area. We’re making sure these toys stay local around our base locations, so we can say thank you to the communities that host us.”
