Valley grad named NCCAA All-American

Kentucky Christian University sophomore setter and Valley High School graduate Lauren Dunn was named NCCAA First-Team All-American for her performance in the 2012 volleyball season.

Dunn averaged 10.46 assists/sets and led the nation in this statistic for the final six weeks of the season. Dunn was also named to the NCCAA National All-Tournament team and First-Team AVCA All-American.

The KCU Lady Knights finished a successful season with a 26-6 record and a Final Four appearance in the NCCAA Division II National Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla.

The team finished third in the country, their highest finish in program history. The Lady Knights dropped a semifinal match to Maranatha Baptist Bible College 3-1 to end their drive for a championship in 2012.

Earlier in the 2012 season, Dunn earned NCCAA National Player of the Week honors. She earned the award for her play in the Grace Bible College Tournament during the week of Oct. 8-15.

In that span, the Lady Knights won four games, three coming in the tournament where Dunn averaged 10.4 assists/sets. In the four-game span, Dunn had a total of 145 assists in the four games.

“I am really proud of Lauren. She is such a consistent player, every game I know I can count on her to go out on the floor focused and ready to play,” KCU coach Bruce Dixon said at the time of the Player of the Week award. “Lauren is consistent because of the hard work she puts in during practice and the off season and I am happy that her hard work has been recognized.”

Dunn took over the starting setter position about halfway through them 2011 season. KCU went on to win its regional tournament and competed in the 2011 NCCAA National Tournament in Florida.

The Lady Knights returned from Florida in 2011 with a sixth place national ranking.

While Dunn has been on the roster, KCU has compiled a record of 57-17.

KCU plays a schedule of NCCAA, NAIA and NCAA Division III teams.

Dunn is a 2011 graduate of Valley and is the daughter of Jeff and Shumaine Dunn of Lucasville.
