For the first time in program history, Eastern volleyball will be play in the Final Four of the Division IV State Volleyball Tournament.

The Eagles will face Kidron Central Christian noon Friday at Wright State University for the chance to play in a state championship match.

Kidron Central Christian, out of Region 13, defeated North Jackson-Milton 23-25, 25-16, 25-14, 28-26 in a Division IV District Semifinal, then beat New Philiadelphia Tuscarawas 17-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-23 on Saturday to advance to the Final Four.

Eastern plowed through its road to the Final Four defeating Newark Catholic 25-15, 31-29, 25-21 and then beating Shekinah Christian 25-23, 26-24, 23-25, 25-19 on Saturday.

The third set of the Shekinah victory ended a streak of 75 undefeated sets for the Eagles.

“I don’t think we thought about losing that set,” Eastern coach Janet Day said after Saturday’s match. “We just came out in that next set and talked about let’s put it away here. This is our (set) and we’re going to put this one away right here.”

Saturday’s match marked the fourth-straight visit to the Elite Eight for Eastern’s senior class. Finally able to break through to the Final Four, experience will be a on the side of the Eagles.

“Those seniors have so much tournament experience, they have so much club experience,” Day said.

Two of Day’s seniors, Chandler Brown and Rhyanna Day, were named to the Divison IV All-Ohio Honorable Mention list by the state’s volleyball coaches.

The contest will be played at the Ervin J. Nutter Center in Fairborn. The winner of the match will face the winner of Maria Stein Marion Local and New Washington Buckeye Central.

Should Eastern reach the state final, the match will be played Saturday at the Nutter Center with a 3 p.m. start time.
