If you enjoy a good run or a pleasant walk on a brisk late fall morning, the Red Cross Jingle Bell Jog 5-K Run/Walk, may just be your event.
Again this year, the Ohio River Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross is holding their Jingle Bell Jog on Dec. 1, with registration beginning at 8 a.m. at the Scioto County Welcome Center on Second Street in Portsmouth, and the run/walk to begin at 9 a.m. at the Front Street side of the Welcome Center.
The entry fee is $20 until Nov. 23. After that date, the registration fee will be $25. Those wishing to participate may also register at active.com; tristateracer.com, or by calling 740-354-3293. Proceeds from the event will benefit local disaster services.
“We’re having a Christmas costume contest,” Red Cross Executive Director Mary Arnzen said. “It’s just to make it fun. It’s our way of encouraging people to come out and have fun, and enjoy the Christmas season. It’s kind of kicking off the Christmas season.”
One of the prizes will be two tickets to the Ohio State/Long Beach State basketball game on Dec. 8, compliments of William McKinley. Another prize will be a $100 gift certificate compliments of Scioto Shoe Mart.
“It will be worth dressing up for,” Arnzen said. “Oh, and remember, Santa will be joining us this year and will even be available for photos.”
Arnzen summed it up this way - “We say it will be 3.1 miles of smiles.”
