The Eastern Lady Eagles are ready for this evening’s Division IV Regional Semifinal against the Newark Catholic Green Wave, according to Eastern coach Janet Day.

“Our preparation has gone very well and we had somebody go watch them for us so we found out a little bit about them,” Eastern coach Janet Day said. “We were a little bit familiar with them after playing them in the district semis last season.”

Day said the Lady Eagles have a height advantage over the Green Wave and the opponents offense depends on specific players to provide offense, unlike Eastern.

“They aren’t as tall as us and I don’t think they are as well-rounded as we are,” Day said. “They have a few hitters they depend on for their offense and on any given night we have a number of hitters that can contribute.”

Day also said the height advantage should give her players the advantage at the net.

Newark Catholic was the No. 1 seed in the Hilliard 1 District and defeated Canal Winchester Harvest Prep in the District Finals in three sets.

Beating teams in three sets is something Eastern knows a thing or two about. The team has yet to be forced to a fourth set in 2012.

“I think it’s the first time it’s ever happened. We have had an undefeated season before but never one when we didn’t drop any sets,” Day said. “Sometimes I don’t know if it is good or bad though. I kind of wish someone would have pushed us to five games just so we would know what it would be like in that situation.”

According to Day, she will be looking for her four seniors to keep the Lady Eagles out of any tricky situations.

“Each plays different positions and has important roles. They are four huge roles and each play those roles real well,” Day said. “For two of the seniors, this is their fourth regional tournament and for the other two it’s their third. They have a lot of tournament experience and that makes you more comfortable.”

The game is slated to begin at 6 p.m. tonight at Lancaster High School.
