Minford girls soccer wrapped up a successful 2012 season after falling 6-1 to Zane Trace Tuesday evening.

No. 4 Minford reached the contest by winning the program’s first Sectional Championship Saturday in a 4-3 over time win over Chesapeake.

“I am very pleased with the team this season and very proud,” Minford soccer coach Dave Munion said. “The girls are excited to have a Sectional Champions banner hanging in the gym.”

No. 1 Zane Trace will advance to play Zanesville West Muskingum Saturday evening.

The Lady Falcons will lose Andrea Culp, Kylee Dever, Shelby Dunham, Kelli Grooms, Kasey Lafferty, Shyann Parker, Morgan Perry, Sabrina Runyon, Shonna Warren, Monica Colley and Tylin Bender to graduation.

“It’s always hard to see them go,” Munion said. “The seniors worked hard and were team leaders.”

The Lady Falcons finished 8-10 and with a large junior class returning, 2013 Minford girls soccer will look to continue the upward trend established by a Sectional Championship in 2012.

“We have a lot of players coming back including nine starters,” Munion said. “It’s an exciting group.”
