In a placement match, Schmidt and O’Neill earned the No. 2 seed in Columbus against the Martin-Martin duo of Chesapeake losing 1-6, 3-6.
“They played with a lot of energy and came through in the clutch,” said Notre Dame interim coach Susanne O’Neill, who was filling in for coach Maddie Rutman while she was out of the country.
The State Tournament will take place Oct. 19 and 20 at the Ohio State Outdoor Varsity Tennis Courts and Hilliard Davidson High School.
