The Ohio State Fire Marshal is investigating a fire that occurred in Lucasville early Tuesday morning, claiming the lives of two women.
According to Shane Cartmill, Public Information Officer with the State Fire Marshal’s Office, the fire occurred at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, in a single family residence located at 3114 Duck Run Road, in Lucasville. The fire originated in the rear of the home near the kitchen and was heavily damaged as a result. In the initial exam of the scene, Fire Marshal investigators did not find any smoke alarms.
The names of the two victims have not been released by the Fire Marshal’s office, but the Daily Times has identified them through a local funeral home as Alice Jordan, age 90, and Nellie Allard, age 65.
Capt. Shawn Sparks with the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office said Rush Fire Department responded to the 911-call, along with Squad 2, Union Fire Department, Valley Fire Department, Morgan Fire Department, and Valley Squad 5.
Sparks said the woman who made the 911-call was, “super relaxed and the dispatcher was telling her to get out of the house. If I’m correct you can hear the fire burning in the background.”
Sparks said Rush Fire Department advised at 12:48 p.m. that they found an injured male, and they were requesting squad assistance. Chief Jarrod Montovan of the Rush Township Fire Department identified the injured man as an EMS with Scioto Squad 2 and former Morgan Township Fire Chief, Tim Phipps. Cartmill said Phipps suffered a cardiac episode at the scene of the fire and was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, where Cartmill said he was doing well on Tuesday afternoon.
But not everyone walked away from the blaze. Sparks said the fire department requested the Scioto County Coroner’s office at 12:58 a.m.
No further information was available, and investigators were still at the scene Tuesday searching for the cause of the fire.
Funeral arrangements for Alice Jordan and Nellie Allard are pending at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville.
