The Scioto County Republican Party is planning a big show of support when Mitt Romney arrives in Chillicothe on Tuesday.

Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts and presumptive Republican nominee for President of the United States, will be speaking with Ohio Sen. Rob Portman at the Ross County Courthouse at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

The doors open at 6 p.m., and the Scioto County Republican Party will be arriving with two buses packed with supporters. Each bus can carry 56 people, and within just one day of announcing the trip online, one bus has already quickly filled up. Bryan Davis, communications co-chair for the Scioto County Republican Party, said they’ll take a third bus, if they have to.

“I believe Mr. Romney is going to do great things as president, and we look forward to hearing his message of economic prosperity. We need it in this area bad, with Scioto County lagging behind the rest of the nation and even the state — we’re so far behind the state even, so-far as unemployment,” Davis said.

Tickets for the bus ride are $25 each, and include a seat on the bus, light refreshments, and access to the event in Chillicothe. The bus will depart Portsmouth at 5 p.m. Tuesday from the Scioto County GOP Headquarters, in the courthouse annex on Sixth Street. To purchase a ticket, contact the GOP headquarters at 740-776-6587, or call party chairman Rodney Barnett at 740-778-2110 or party co-chair Kay Reynolds at 740-352-1682.

Tickets are also available for free — without the round-trip bus transportation — online at romneyinchillicothe.eventbrite.com, or through the Ross County Republican Party headquarters located at 129 East Main St., in Chillicothe, or by calling Ross County Republican Party Chairperson Diane Carnes at 740-703-0138.

Davis said more than 5,000 people are expected — so many that the Romney Campaign has sent 100 more tickets.

“I have never seen the Republican base this motivated, and this on fire, as what it is right now. It’s amazing to me the number of people that are stepping up and stepping out, and saying ‘I want to help’ and ‘I want to be part of restoring this nation, restoring our community. I want to do something, what can I do?’ It is incredible to me just some of the attitudes. I don’t know how many older people have said to me, ‘I’m 60 or 70 and this is is the most important election of my life,” Davis said.

The Scioto County Republican Party had a scheduled Central Committee meeting for Tuesday, but have cancelled it to attend the Romney rally in Chillicothe. The committee meeting will be rescheduled for a later date yet to be announced.
