A two-vehicle crash in Pike County has claimed the life of a child. Ten-year-old Christopher Sprouse of Beaver, Ohio, was pronounced dead a short time after being transported to Pike Community Hospital.

The Chillicothe Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said they are investigating the crash which occurred on Ohio 32 at around 7:55 a.m. Wednesday. Troopers said a 2001 Honda Civic driven by Donna S. Bowling, 66, of Beaver, was traveling northbound on Red Hollow Road when it failed to yield from a stop sign. Bowling’s vehicle was reportedly then struck by a 2012 Ford Edge traveling westbound on Ohio 32 and driven by Rebecca L. Adkins, 32, of Wellston, Ohio.

Sprouse was ejected from Bowling’s vehicle, transported by Pike County Emergency Management Services to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Bowling was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. Adkins was not injured.

In addition to the OSHP, the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, Pike County ODOT and Pike County EMS, all assisted at the scene.

The crash resulted in the third fatal that has occurred this year in Pike County.
